Tulum, Mexico

Tulum has exploded over the last ten years and I can understand why. What used to be a beach town that people would camp/hostel has now turned into a major world-renowned beach destination. You won’t find big resorts like in Playa Del Carmen or Cancun, but you’ll find gorgeously designed boutique hotels on the beach downtown. Tulum has a little bit of everything - amazing food, great beaches, live music, history, culture, and wildlife. I’ve been to Tulum twice and planning to go in a month and every time I fall in love with this little piece of heaven.

How to Get Here

You will need to fly into Cancun and either arrange a shuttle with your respective hotel or rent a car for the 2-hour car drive down to Tulum.

How to Get Around

Whether you stay in town or at the beach you’ll end up wanting to rent a bike or moped to get around. There are bike rental shops and/or some hotels that provide their guests’ free rentals. If you are interested in checking out cenotes you can either get a cab/uber or tour group.

Where to Stay

Depending on your budget you can find yourself in a design-forward hostel, hotels with breathtaking jungle/ocean views, or a bit more affordable Airbnb/hotel options downtown. Here are some of my favorites that have left quite the impression.

Where to Eat

You’ll never run out of options of delicious food in Tulum. While you can find some cheap eats, be warned that a lot of the restaurants by the beach can be quite pricey (think NY/LA prices). Tulum has become a foodie destination & I can tell you it definitely has proven to have some amazing gems.

What To Do

If you are looking for some culture/adventure you have a couple of options - you can see some beautiful Mayan ruins, dive into some cenotes (freshwater sinkholes), or go cave-diving.
